BASICS | What We Believe

The Bible – God wrote a book

The Scriptures of the Old and New testaments are the verbally inspired word of God, the final authority for faith and life and conduct of mankind, infallible and God-breathed.
2 Tim. 3:16, 17; 2 Pet. 1:20, 21; Matt. 5:18; John 16:12, 13

Trinity – Three in One

There is one triune God, eternally existing in three persons. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Coeternal in being, coequal in power and glory, and having the same attributes.
Deut. 6:4; 2 Cor. 13:14

The Father – Creator

God is great, God is good. Creator of heaven and earth.
Genesis 1–2

The Son – God as humanity

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary to reveal God and to redeem humanity.
John 1:1, 2, 14; Luke 1:35

The Holy Spirit – God is present

The Holy Spirit is a member of the Trinity, a supernatural agent in regeneration, confirming believers into the body of Christ, sealing and indwelling them. The gifts of the Spirit are different manifestations to build up the church.
John 16:8-11; 2 Cor. 3:6; 1 Cor. 12:12-14; Rom. 8:9; Eph. 5:18;1 Cor. 12:1-11

Eternity – Somewhere forever

Believers in Christ are kept by God’s power and are secure in Christ forever.
John 6:37-40, 10:27-30; Rom. 8:1, 38, 39; 1 Cor. 1:4-8; 1 Pet. 1:5

Humanity – Image bearers

Humanity was created in the image and likeness of God. After Adam’s sin, all humanity inherited a sinful nature and became separated from God. Because of sin and our inability to remedy our situation Christ came to rescue and redeem us to our Creator.
Rom. 3:22–23, 5:12; Eph. 2:1-3, 12

Salvation – God’s only way

Salvation is a gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in Christ.
Eph. 2:8-10; John 1:12; Eph. 1:7; 1 Pet. 1:18-19

The Church – God’s design for community

The church is the body of Christ. It is a living, spiritual organism and the hope of the world.
Eph. 1:22, 23, 5:25-27; 1 Cor. 12:12-14; 2 Cor 11:2; Acts 14:27, 18:22, 20:17, 1 Tim. 3:1-3; Titus 1:5-11

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
